Page with redirect

Page with redirect

Google is indexing the destination, if anything. The URL you submitted is not the one that stays.

Search Console reports this when the inspected URL redirects. The hop itself is not an error. Indexing the redirecting URL would be the error.

Use one hop, a 301 or 308, to the final HTTPS URL. Chains and meta refresh are weaker. The sitemap and internal links should already use the destination.

If the redirect is accidental, a trailing slash mismatch, or an auth wall, fix the server so the URL you care about returns 200.

What to check

  • Follow the Location headers and stop at the first non-redirect.
  • Point canonicals, sitemap entries, and internal links at that final URL.
  • Do not list the redirecting URL as the page you want indexed.

Fix prompt

Example prompt

This URL redirects. If the destination is the real page, link and canonicalize to the destination and use a single 301. If this URL should be indexed, stop redirecting it and return HTTP 200. Do not call an indexing API.
